Georgetown University Relies on Chronus Mentor Software to Power Student-Alumni Mentoring Program

Award-winning Hoya Gateway mentoring program provides a vital connection between students and alumni for career skills and networking

Georgetown University Alumni AssociationBellevue, WASH.  – September 23, 2014 Chronus Corporation, a leading provider of software for talent and career development, has published a new customer success story about the Georgetown University Alumni Association, which is using Chronus Mentor to manage its award-winning alumni-to-student mentoring program across the United States. Recently, the Hoya Gateway program received a prestigious CASE Gold Accolades Award for best practices in alumni relations, in part due to their mentoring program.

“There is a big trend in universities to provide mentoring programs for students right now,” explained Vetri Vellore, CEO of Chronus Corporation. “Schools today are tasked with not only providing students with an education in their chosen field of study, but also in teaching students the skills required to land that first job. College degree factories are out; polished graduates with interviewing and networking skills are in. Georgetown is a shining example of a university who is doing it right.”

Specifically, Chronus provides the mentoring software that powers the Hoya Gateway program, an innovative program that facilitates career-related conversations between current Georgetown students and alumni. This program creates opportunities for generations of Hoyas to connect for in-person, one-on-one meetings in the form of an informational interview, resume review, or mock interview.

Bridget Holmes, the Senior Director of Career Initiatives at Georgetown University, said, “We want students to understand the real world and create a professional network before they leave campus. The Hoya Gateway mentoring program facilitates this effort and provides an easy, scalable way to make connections between students and alumni. We hope to shift the culture of our student body to help them understand how important a professional network is.”

To date, more than 2,250 students and alumni have enrolled in the mentoring programs run on the Chronus platform, in five U.S. cities spanning nine key industries.

Chronus Mentor is software to start, manage, and measure mentoring programs online that combines cloud-based software and program best practices to provide a complete student and alumni mentoring solution. The software can launch and manage several mentoring programs simultaneously, and can scale across geographies. “Using a flexible platform such as Chronus in conjunction with a dedicated group of volunteer leaders has allowed us to create a cost-effective program,” Alumnus and President Elect of GUAA, Jeff Chapski said.  “And the adoption of the program by mentees and mentors has been very strong.”
