Mentoring Veterans: Bridging the Gap Between Service and Workplace Success

With additional training and specialized skills, veteran employees bring diverse experiences and knowledge to the modern workforce. But their skills and training often go underutilized in the workforce.

One Syracuse University study found that veterans typically changed jobs at least two times within their first few years of employment.

But veteran mentoring programs can be an ideal solution for assisting service members back into civilian working life. Mentoring can help create more connective networks for veterans while transitioning their military strengths to workplace success. Joins us along with AcademyWomen, a global leadership and professional development organization that empowers aspiring, current and past women military leaders through mentoring, training, and growth opportunities to impact positive change locally, nationally and globally, to learn how mentoring can impact military veterans in finding jobs after active duty and develop their skillsets for greater career success. In this presentation, Susan Feland, founder of AcademyWomen, and Nicole Schuler, Program Director of the eMentor Leadership Program, will walk us through:

    • How formal mentoring programs impact veterans
    • Best practices for setting up a mentoring program
    • How to keep veterans engaged for ultimate impact
